This is our sanctuary, the heart of our church. This is where we celebrate all the Masses at Our Lady of Wisdom. You can see the choir area to the lower right of the altar, the tabernacle and prayer candles to the left of the altar, and our baptismal font in the rear. Believe it or not, this area used to house the entire parish—offices, restrooms, and all! The second floor and choir loft was in the area where the baptismal font is today. The second floor was removed in the late 1970’s in order to provide for the growing number of parishioners. The current parish offices and Newman Center are beyond the white door at the rear of the sanctuary while the parish hall is through the double doors nearest the tabernacle.
This is the parish hall, the location for many events throughout the year. This is where we hold monthly fellowship after Mass, where RCIA and Children’s Liturgy classes are held, and where numerous other celebrations and events take place. The Newman Center uses this space frequently, from hosting retreat lectures to game nights. It’s very common to see a student or two studying at one of the tables here—a nice and quiet study space away from the occasionally hectic libraries on campus…especially during finals! From here one can go directly into the sanctuary or into the hallway connecting the parish offices to the Newman Center.
The Newman Lounge is the hub of the Newman Center. It’s a gathering place and a place to unwind and relax after a long day. Students gather here to watch TV, study, and often get time for a quick nap before their next class! The lounge is connected to the game room and library as well as several other student areas. It’s the center for many Newman activities, from retreats to movie nights and everything in between.
The game room at Our Lady of Wisdom includes a pool table, ping pong table, and foosball table. It’s also full of all kinds of board, card, and trivia games. This area is always popular during retreats but is open for use all the time. If you want to unwind by challenging a friend to a game of Horse, this is the place. Stop by and have some fun!
The Newman Center library is a place that many people don’t know exists. But just off of the Newman Lounge, the library is filled with books covering a wide variety of issues from faith to church doctrine, biographies and even some fiction! All of the books are available to check out and the library is also home to couches and chairs for studying and reading.
The Newman Center is home to a meeting/multipurpose room right off of the lounge. This room is mainly home to meetings of the University of Nevada council of the Knights of Columbus, but is also used for all kinds of meetings and gatherings throughout the year.
Student Coordinator Office
This student office is where all of the retreats are planned and is where Newman student coordinators can be found when they’re not off preparing for another great event. Stop in and say hello!
The prayer room is a quiet, private space located off of the Newman lounge for prayer, reflection, meditation, and contemplation. If you want to spend some time in prayer but don’t feel like spending it in the church, this is the perfect place.
