Knights of Columbus

Who are the Knights of Columbus?

The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of Catholic men who are dedicated to charitable works, Christian fraternity, Promotion of Vocations, Family Life, and Protection of Human Life. They assist in the mission of the Church through volunteer hours and outreach on a local, national, and international level. It’s a brotherhood that was originally founded in 1882 and has been providing assistance to countless people for over a century. The Knights are a group of men that give of themselves so that others may have more.

Who can be a Knight?

The Knights of Columbus is open to Catholic men over the age of eighteen years old who are in good standing with the Catholic Church. But first and foremost a Knight should be someone who’s dedicated to a cause and is willing to give of their time for the betterment of the community around them.

Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Wisdom

The local council of the Knights of Columbus at our parish is a college council. As the official Knights webpage states, the purpose of a college council is to “promote the moral, intellectual and spiritual development of the future leaders of civil society, the Order, and the Church through witness to the Gospel and dedication to the principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism”. We’re just as involved as your standard Knight council but we are focused on providing membership to students and young adults.

If this sounds like an opportunity you’d like to become involved in, please contact our parish office for more information.
